Piano Studio

My name is Chandar Boyle and I have been teaching piano lessons for twenty plus years. I absolutely LOVE seeing students grow in their understanding of music and develop as expressive musicians. We all have music inside of us that is longing to be expressed, and I consider it a great honor to be a part of this equipping process in the lives of others.

I am first and foremost a worshipper of Jesus Christ, and my expression of music is most often through the form of worship. I play and sing worship songs, I lead worship at my church, and I write worship music to help others engage their hearts with God. One of my greatest joys is helping young worshippers grow in their understanding of worship and learn how to lead as well.

I am also the wife of a fabulous drummer, a mother to two grown stepdaughters, and I currently have a 9 year old son and an 18 month old daughter wreaking havoc and filling our home with continuous laughter and joy. Motherhood has added a new dimension to my teaching and a greater depth to my understanding of children and how they function. My struggles and triumphs as a parent have shaped my soul and musical expression in countless ways.

I SO enjoy my students and I love being a part of the lives of their families. I am grateful for the gift of music, and I value every opportunity to grow and help others succeed in developing their gift.

I started Suzuki piano lessons at age three with Linda Kula in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In High School I took two years of private piano lessons with Sharon Kay Stang. During this time I competed in the IMTA Piano competitions and won first place in level E and honorable mention in level F at the state level. I loved playing classical music, but I also discovered a personal outlet and began to write my own music leading me to take two years of private composition lessons with Jerry Owen at Coe College. I received a scholarship in piano performance at UCLA and moved out to Los Angeles where I had the privilege of studying piano with Johana Harris Heggie. During that time I discovered a personal relationship with God and my heart was captured by worship music. While I completed my degree, receiving my bachelors in Music Composition, I spent much of my spare time playing, singing, and writing church music. I participated weekly with the worship team at the Westside Vineyard Church where I was trained and mentored as a worship leader. After I graduated from college I continued to work as a sound engineer at UCLA in the music school recording concerts and making listening copies for the Ethnomusicology Archives. I also taught piano lessons both privately and in group sessions at a local preschool, and helped teach a music theatre class for elementary students. My path eventually wound back to Iowa when I became the Worship Pastor of the Heartland Vineyard Church. I am still blessed to be a part of this wonderful ministry where I get to work with gifted musicians and singers on a weekly basis in leading others into God's presence. Since moving to the Cedar Valley I have also maintained an active piano studio. I am a member of the Music Teacher's National Association, The Waterloo B Natural Club, and the secretary for the local association of piano teachers called NAMTA (Northeast Area Music Teacher's Association) where I continue to be inspired and grow in the art of teaching. I am also furthering my education as a teacher by taking the Piano Pedagogy course at UNI.
