The Rock Band Recital is an annual event in the fall that gives students the opportunity to play with a full rock band including drums, bass, electric and acoustic guitar. As preparation for the recital, students work on learning to read by chords and improvise off of chord charts and lead sheets. They often create their own arrangements of songs of their own choosing. Some students choose to sing their song while playing and others have someone sing for them. Students are also give the choice of playing on the piano or an electric keyboard where they can experience a new feel and fun sounds of all kinds. This recital features a variety of music from contemporary worship songs, to the Pink Panther Theme Song, to Smoke on the Water. Even the young beginners are given the chance to play their new pieces from the Suzuki repertoire. There's nothing like hearing the Twinkle Little Star Variations with a thumping bass and a back beat! This recital is without a doubt our favorite event of the year, and a definite motivator to keeping kids on track with their musical growth and practice at home. It is also a time where students get to showcase a variety of musical skills!
