Private lessons are taught once a week in 30 minute sessions. I use the Suzuki Method for ear training and technique and incorporate other method books such as Alfred's Premier Piano Course and the Bastien series to teach music reading skills. Curriculum and repertoire are developed for each student based on individual gifting and needs. I also incorporate chord charts and lead sheets into lessons to encourage a deeper understanding of theory and improvisation. If students are progressing well in their basic studies I encourage them to choose their own songs for fun, especially while preparing for the Rock Band Recital. A typical lesson includes time spent developing all of the basics: musical playing, technique, reading skills, and an understanding of music theory.

Private Lessons

Adult Lessons

I enjoy teaching piano to adults as well as young children. I have taught adult beginners as well as those revisiting piano for the second time. It's never too late to learn!! Adults have the capacity to understand music with a deeper level of appreciation and pick up on musical concepts quickly. Performing is always optional, and never required because adults often desire playing for their own personal enjoyment only.

This spring I am starting group classes for preschoolers using the Music for Little Mozarts curriculum. Together we will take a journey with Beethoven Bear and Mozart Mouse to discover the joys of making music. This course prepares young children for private piano lessons by teaching them the basics of music reading and giving them experience playing songs on the piano. A typical session includes singing, movement, stories, activities, and time at the piano.
